Thermal Imaging - Infrared Survey
Infrared surveys provide early detection of failures in electrical and mechanical operations. These surveys can be used on power distribution networks, buss work, transformers, motor control centers, control cabinets, motors, and switch gear. Sample infrared and accompanying digital image shown below.
Poor connections can go undetected resulting in unnecessary downtime. In this case the Yellow phase is approximately 30ºF hotter than the other two incoming power lines. The concentration of heat near the disconnect terminal suggests that there may be a bad connection at that input terminal. The connection on the incoming line of the disconnect should be checked.
